Chapter 24 - The Adventure is Over

Rudolf goes to the Alps and rests in a peaceful little village. He informs his butler that he is holidaying at the Alps. This is to end the anxiety that his family is having at home. On the way back to England, he stops at Paris and meets his friend, George who informs him about Antoinette being in Paris. He then writes to her. When he arrives home, he refuses the job in Strelsau. He lives quietly and alone in a house in the countryside with the memories of his beloved.
Once a year, he travels to a small town near Ruritania to visit Fritz and his wife. They give him a rose and news from Princess Flavia.

Chapter 23 - Honour Must Come Before Love

Rudolf visits the king who is in bed and very weak. The King thanks Rudolf for saving his life and throne. He then sees Flavia. They confess their love but decide to put honour and loyalty as the priority. Princess Flavia decides that she should stay and serve her country. Rudolf admires her courage.
Sapt and fritz take Rudolf to the Railway station. Fritz complements Rudolf by saying "The best men are not often kings". Feeling sad and heartbroken, Rudolf boards the train and leaves Ruritania.

Chapter 22 - I am Not The King

The King is saved. Johann and Antoinette promise to keep the secret. The news is that the King has been wounded in Zenda during a rescue mission of a friend from the prison. In the fight, the Duke has been killed. Princess Flavia rushes to see the King. She meets with a peasant girl who tells her that the KIng is behind the tree, badly wounded. But Sapt tries to tell her that the King is in the Castle. Feeling confused, Flavia goes behind the tree and sees Rudolf. Sapt tells her the truth as Rudolf admits. Flavia faints upon hearing the truth. Rudolf feel ashamed that he had lied to Flavia.

Chapter 21 - Danger for Rassendyll and Rupert Hentzau

Rupert calls out for the Duke to fight him. Just then Antoinette cries out that the Duke is dead. Feeling engraged. Antoinette fires at Rupert. However, she misses her target when Rupert jumps into the moat and escapes into the wood. Rudolf follows and escapes. Rudolf manages to catch him and they fight. Rupert is about to kill him when Fritz arrives to save him. Rupert turns around and escapes.

Chapter 20 - Rassendyll Fights Bravely to Save the King

Antoinette screams as Rupert enters her room. The Duke comes to her rescue and they fight. Rupert stabs the Duke and then escapes through the window. Rudolf kills De Gautet as he comes running out of the castle. Rudolf gets the key and enters the door leading to the King's room. Rudolf kills Bersonin and Detchard but before that he manages to wound Rudolf in his left arm.
Rudolf suspects that his plan might fail because he hears Rupert's merry laughter on the bridge.

Chapter 19 - Rupert Hentzau also Makes a Plan

After that, Rudolf rides ahead to Zenda Castle. He swims to the bridge and hides in the shadow of the pipe in the moat. He waits for the rest to come at the appointed time' A window opens and he sees Antoinette and Rupert arguing. Rupert tells her that after he kills Rudolf, the Duke will give her to him.
Later, Rudolf realizes that Rupert quietly gets into the moat and swims towards the New Castle. He is up to something. Rudolf wants to kill him but he has to wait for Johann to open the castle door.

Chapter 18 - Rassendyll Makes a Plan

Rudolf's anxiety grows as the wedding date is fixed and he hears the newws that the King is ill. Johann gives him information about the location of the King and the guards at Zenda Castle. Rudolf offers Johann fifty thousand clovers to open the cstle door at two o'clock and give note to Antoinette asking her to play her part in rescuing the King. Sapt and fritz are informed about the rescue plan. Before Rudolf leaves to rescue the King, he bids farewell to Princess Flavia.

Chapter 17 - Rupert Hentzau and Madam de Mauban

The animosity between Duke Michael and Rudolf grows as they pretend to be friends in public. The chief of police tells Rudolf that the family members and friends of Englishman named Rudolf Rassendyll are orried as the man has gone missing in Ruritania. Rudolf orders the Chief of Police to go to Strelsau to avoid any suspicion. Then, Rudolf meets Rupert and tells him that he will be forgiven if he helps to save the King.
Rupert then suggest that, Rudolf attacks the castle at Rupert's signal. He wants the Duke, Sapt and Fritz to be killed. When Rudolf becomes the King, he can have all the power and money. he decsribes himself as the 'Devil's own master'.
At Tarleinham Castle, Rudolf receives a note from Antoinette asking for help from Zenda Castle.

Chapter 16 - Murder in the Moat

News is spread that the King is seriously wounded. This is to deceive Duke Michael. Princess Flavia visits Rudolf and is delighted to see him well.
Rudolf and his men try to save the King at night. He swims to the pipe in the moat to enter the castle. His attempt fails because he has to kill the guard and this bothers Rudolf very much. They run into 'The Three' of the 'famous Six' and kill two of them but Rupert manages to escapes.
The attack has not helped the King. Rudolf worries that this will make the King's situation worse.

Chapter 15 - RAssendyll Narrowly Escapes Death

Rudolf, Sapt and Fritz wait in front of the castle. Instead of Johann, Rupert is waiting for them. Rupert informs them that the Duke promises a hundred thousand pounds if he leaves Ruritania. When Rudolf refuses the offer, Rupert stabs him and escapes. Johann is caught and brought before Rudolf when he regains consciousness.
Johann tells him the whereabouts of the King. Rudolf knows that he has to do something very uickly to save the King.

Chapter 14 - Rassendyll Revisits the Inn in Zenda

The three Ruritanians of the 'Famous Six' visit Rudolf and tell him that Duke Michael is unable to come because he is ill. Rupert Hentzau looks feraless and wicked. Rudolf plans to save the King. He asks the girl at the inn to arrange him a meeting with Johann, the forest guard at the draw bridge of the castle. Sapt informs Rudolf that the Duke's men have shot and wounded Bernenstein, mistaking him for Rudolf.

Chapter 13 : Love or Honour

The conflict between love and honour rages in Rudolf. He decides on the right thing to do which is to save the King. They spread the news that they are going boar-hunting in Zenda. This news upsets the Princess. Later, Rudolf tells that the boar that they are hunting is the Duke. He makes her promise that if anything should happen to the King, she should be queen. Rudolf, Sapt and his trusted men leave for the castle.

Chapter 12 - The Marriage will Shortly Take Place

The people are upset with the King as he has not yet fixed the wedding date with Princess Flavia. That evening at the dance, Rudolf courts Princess Flavia and confesses his love for her. She too has fallen in love with him. Being an honourable man, Rudolf wants to tell her the truth about himself, but Sapt intervenes and stop him.

Chapter 11 - A Kind of Tea Party

Rudolf receives a letter from Antoinette asking him to meet her at her house at midnight. They suspect that it is just a trap by Duke Michael. Reading the note, they realize that Antoinette has quarrelled with Duke and may genuinely help them.
At midnight, Rudolf meets her and she tells him that the Duke plans to kill the King and throws his body in the Old Town. Then, Duke plans to put the blame on the King's friend. She also tells him that the King is imprisoned in Zenda Castle. Suddenly the Duke's three followers arrive at the scene. They make an offer that the Duke is willing to pay fifty thousand pounds if Rudolf leaves Ruritania. Rudolf escapes using a tea table as a shield from the gunshots.

Chapter 10 - Rassendyll, Black Michael and Three of The Famous Six

Rudolf rides through the street because he wants the people to like and trust the King. He stops and buys flowers for Princess Flavia. It pleases the crowd as well as Princess Flavia. Duke Michael and his three foreign followers arrives at the Princess' house. Rudolf sees the hatred in Duke Michael's eyes. Princess Flavia urges Rudolf to be careful of the Duke and his followers.
In the midst of all thewe happenings, Rudolf has fallen in love with Princess Flavia. He also finds that Fritz is with Contess Helga, the companion of the Princess. Rudolf and Fritz then leave he house.

Chapter 9 : The Famous Six

Sapt gives Rudolf a three-hour lesson on the duties of a king. Rudolf has to meet his chief minister and ambassadors. Sapt informs him of the "Famous Six", the loyal folloewrs of Duke Michael who are ruthless; three of them are Ruritanians and the other three are foreigners. The three Ruritanians are guarding the King in Zenda.

Chapter 8 : Rassendyll Must Return to Strelsau as King

Rudolf suggests taking an army to attack Duke Michael and rescue the King. Sapt thinks that it is important for Rudolf to impersonate the King to save his throne and life. Soon, they see a group of eight horsemen arriving at the lodge with spades to bury Josef and hide the evidence of Duke Michael's crime. To avenge Josef's death, Sapt and Rudolf kill three of them before escaping.

C3 : Rudolf Rasendyll Meets King Rudolf V

The next morning, Rudolf takes a walk to looks at the castle. The beautiful castle is surrounded by a moat and to access to it is to cross a drawbridge. There is also a country house that belongs to Duke Michael.

After a walk in the forest, he sits down to rest and falls asleep. He is awakened by Colonel Sapt and Fritz, the King's advisers. They are also astonished to see Rudolf who is very similar to the King. Soon, he meets the King and they are both equally surprised at their physical resemblance.

The King invites Rudolf to wine and dine at the lodge. A bottle of wine is given to the King. It is a gift from Duke Michael. The King tells Rudolf that Duke Michael has a 'black heart' but his wine is good. So the King drinks the whole bottle.
